ABOUT.

Jonatán López is a Colombian-American writer, director, and creative director. Born in Cali, Colombia, he grew up in Florida. He comes from a line of fearless people: his grandmother, a widowed mother who emigrated in the 1970s, and his grandfather, a renowned matador.

Sometimes he’s serious, sometimes he’s cheeky—it depends on the sun, the flavor of coffee, and whether he can drive with the top down in his ‘88 Saab 900 Turbo. He loves world-building—for himself, for strangers, for the kid in the back of the classroom.

His career began in editing, working with Terrence Malick, Richard Linklater, and Beyoncé. Later, as a creative at Spotify, Jonatán developed and led original series, like Ascent (spotlighting emerging Black artists), Caviar Chronicles (an animated series with Trippie Redd and Vince Staples), and Butt Dial (a comedy podcast with HAIM, Phoebe Bridgers, and Aminé). He has since directed for major brands like Expedia, Apple, Brooks Running, Coinbase, and VRBO.

His work has been showcased at Cannes, Tribeca, and SXSW, where his short VR documentary won the Audience Jury Prize. He was nominated for a Webby Award in 2022 and for the Young Director Award in 2024—so he can still call himself ‘young.’

He’s currently developing an Anime series with Sony Pictures Television inspired by his family story.
